Yellow Fever at Hilo Bay

Well, at least the tree was yellow.

It’s a Golden Shower tree that was completely covered in blossoms.  It has been quite the attraction while blooming and I even found a weary traveler resting among the branches.

I’m looking forward to the Rainbow Shower trees as they bloom this spring in Hilo.

About Ron Bailey

Ron Bailey is a photographer living and working in Hawaii, USA. Ron worked as the project photographer for the Tomb Restoration Project at the Colorado Yule Marble Quarry beginning in 2003, and continues to document the ever changing Yule Quarry, amassing the largest photo/video library in the world of the quarry and holds the exclusive rights to shoot the historic property.   1. I wonder if this is a Tabebuia tree? Are you sure it is a Golden Shower Tree? I saw this last weekend and it took my breath away.

    It is a beautiful tree in a cool location. I’m pretty sure it’s a shower tree…but I’m no expert. I did some research and asked around and everyone thought it was a shower tree. I could be wrong, though. 🙂

  3. Either way, it was a shocking beauty while in bloom. By Valentine’s Day, all the flowers had fallen from the tree leaving it a dark skeleton against the blue sky and water.

  4. Found the article from the Trib and they seem to think it is a Primavera tree. Your guess is as good as mine. 🙂
